ABOUT
Dr Banderker
Dr Banderker obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Stellenbosch in 2011. He completed his internship at Victoria Hospital (2012–2013) and his community service at Worcester Hospital in 2014. From 2015–2016, he served as a Medical Officer in Cardiology and General Medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital.
He went on to complete his MMed in Internal Medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand, simultaneously obtaining his FCP (SA) through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.
During his training at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, his interest in cardiology developed significantly, particularly in the management of valvular and congenital heart disease. He completed an MMED thesis on valvular heart disease, later published in the Cardiovascular Journal of Africa.
He received an award for his valvular heart disease research poster at the WITS Annual Research Day, which was selected for presentation at SA HEART Congress
He completed his cardiology training at Steve Biko Academic Hospital in association with the University of Pretoria, obtaining his Cardiology Certification (Cert Cardio) through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa in 2024. He is currently registered with University of Cape Town / Netcare Sunninghill Hospital for an MPhil in Cardiology.
In 2025–2026, he undertook an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship in percutaneous cardiac structural interventions and advanced coronary interventions under the supervision of Prof Farrel Hellig and Dr Pieter van Wyk. During this fellowship, he presented cases at Africa PCR 2026.
